Joining Gil for the event on Capitol Hill were Reps. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) and Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), author Tom West, dyslexia advocates and students from The Siena School and Lab School DC.
Some students even got the chance to speak about their experiences participating in Dear Dyslexia, which invites dyslexics of all ages to depict their relationship with dyslexia on postcards using words and images.
“When I was completing my postcard, I chose the word ‘complex,’” said one student. “I chose this word because there are so many variations of dyslexia and different ways it affects people. This project brings dyslexic people together all over the world and shines a light on this learning difference and how incredible it can be.”
