Gil Gershoni
Gil Gershoni is the co-founder and creative director of Gershoni Creative, a branding agency with offices in San Francisco and Dallas.
For more than 25 years, Gil has developed design- and innovation-focused solutions that help brands connect with themselves, their audiences and the world around them. Clients include Google, Apple, Spotify, Deloitte, Nike, BBC and Patrón.
Gil is also the founder of Dyslexic Design Thinking, an initiative that explores how the dyslexic mindset can help improve the way we think, create and relate to one another. He is the host of the Dyslexic Design Thinking podcast, which features interviews with dyslexic creators, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders.
Gil is an advocate for the reframing of dyslexia as a “hyper-ability” and regularly speaks to audiences about the power of neurodiversity, including a sold-out appearance at South by Southwest.
Dyslexic Dictionary
Dyslexic Dictionary is a provocation — an invitation to explore and redefine.
Nine dyslexic artists have been commissioned to produce a creative response to a book, word, poem, quote, article or even a single letter that highlights how their minds experience language.
The exhibition illuminates the dyslexic experience of language in powerfully graphical terms. Dyslexia pushes artists to interpret the world differently. The end result celebrates a vibrant diversity of dyslexic talent across mediums and backgrounds in an effort to lead a paradigm shift in the way society understands learning differences.
We chose the term “dictionary” as a placeholder for a collection of reimaginations and reinterpretations of the dyslexic experience that will explode the very notion of a dictionary.
The mission is to present dyslexia as a visionary, positive force — a hyper-ability that does not create but instead solves problems.
More than just an exhibition, Dyslexic Dictionary is a forum to showcase dyslexic ingenuity, host public conversation and gather community.
an aptitude or proficiency beyond the norm
The folks who call dyslexia a disability or a disorder have it all wrong. Too much dis, not enough that. “Hyper-ability” recognizes dyslexia as the gift it is — a powerful tool that drives innovation, diversifies collaboration and powers endless creativity. In the hyper-able mind, ideas are never in short supply. Defined objects reveal new perspectives; disorder comes into order. Solutions are proposed and evaluated in the blink of an eye, one after another. There’s no linear path to “hyper-ability,” but the twists and turns and hairpin curves still get you there.
